Koya corrects Bulitavu on DPP role

July 5, 2016 12:57 am

The Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya rose to correct Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu for listing the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) under the Attorney-General’s Ministerial portfolio.

Koya says the Opposition has once again failed to disseminate the correct information.

“The Opposition has gone to the Media and made claims that the Honourable Minister for Economy Attorney General holds nine Ministerial portfolios which Madam Speaker is incorrect. The Opposition lacks understanding of government processes and demarcation between Ministry’s and the Independent entities such as the DPPs Office, Judiciary, Fijian Election’s Office and FICAC. It is a shame that honourable Bulitavu being a lawyer does not know the difference.”

Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde, in a statement today, clarified that Bulitavu’s claims were not true.

Pryde adds that the DPP is an independent and non-political office saying all decisions made are done so by the DPP alone without interference or in consultations with Attorney-General or the Government.
