Government Whip, Semi Koroilavesau has welcomed the idea of having a day set aside to celebrate Fiji’s Constitution.
Koroilavesau says celebrating the Constitution will encourage Fijians to see this document as their own.
“There are many elements in our constitution that make it worthy of our celebration. I have already mentioned the principle of equal citizenry, this enshrines in our constitution is a true mark of equality, there have been many claims of equality in the past, but none as substantial as this.”
He says the constitution has strike out against ethnic division drawing lines between people and says society should once and for all be united.
In his reply to the President’s address at the opening of parliament, Koroilavesau said celebrating the constitution enables current and the future generations to develop an interest in the supreme law of the land.
