February 25, 2018 6:08 pm

In a bid to boost reforestation efforts, JayDill Sawmillers of Bua opened a nursery to supply seedlings last week.

Director, James Kumar says this initiative is a form of giving back to the land as the JayDill Sawmillers has been part of the timber industry for eight years.

Kumar says a nursery to breed the tree seedlings is the answer to reforestation.

While opening the nursery, Forest Minister, Osea Naiqamu says the onus is now on the company to produce the required quantity and quality of seedlings.

“Having a nursery of its own will enable the company to provide tree seedling to replace trees that they are going to harvest and extract, creating an effective platform to foster a long term win-win relationship with the landowner.”

Naiqamu says this achievement has been hailed a positive signal of the company’s commitment towards the sustainable management of forests.
