Japanese government on stand-by for disaster recovery

As Fiji is now well into the cyclone season, the Japanese government has assured that it will assist Fijians in the event of a natural disaster.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Masahiro Omura says ensuring the safety of Fijians before, during and after natural hazards is part of their deliverables.

Ambassador Omura stated that this is a clear testament of the positive relationship that the two countries share.

“The disaster mitigation is one of the priorities of our core activities. And we are thinking of providing funding for disaster recovery and rehabilitation”.

He adds the Japanese government is currently assisting Fiji in the re-building of several schools, provision of school buses for students with special needs and projects to ensure the supply of clean drinking water.

Meanwhile, over five-hundred thousand dollars was handed over yesterday to upgrade various classroom blocks for several schools in Fiji.
