Investigation into alleged fatal accidents continue

The two victims who were involved in the incident which happened in Valelevu, Nasinu over the weekend remain admitted at the CWM Hospital.

The second victim remains in critical condition while the third victim is admitted at the Acute Surgical Ward.

The driver has been charged with one count of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, drunk driving and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.

It’s alleged the accused lost control of the vehicle and hit three pedestrians at Kanace road in Valelevu, Nasinu on Sunday.

A thirty-year-old woman died in this accident.

In another incident the driver who is alleged to have caused the death of an eighty-year-old man has been caution interviewed and released.

The accident happened along Kings Road in Ba on Sunday.

It is alleged the victim who is from Waidamudamu Settlement in Nausori suddenly crossed the road and was hit by the vehicle driven by the accused.

The driver who is in his 40s was heading towards Ba.

Police say the victim was searching for his daughter’s home when the unfortunate accident claimed his life.

In the North, the fatal accident whereby the fourty-seven-year-old school teacher alleged to have caused the death of a six-year-old boy in Korotari, Labasa has been caution interviewed and released.

Police are waiting for the post mortem examination report to decide on their next step.

Meanwhile, the driver who was involved in the fatal accident that happened in Vunika, Labasa last Monday has also been questioned and released.

The driver in this accident was heading towards Naduna when he allegedly hit the victim who suddenly crossed the road.

The victim was rushed to the Labasa Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The road death toll currently stands at 52 compared to 47 for the same period last year.
