Young Fijians need to know the history of Fiji and that includes the sacrifices our forefathers made to get us the freedom that we live in today.

Fiji Returned soldiers and ex serviceman association president Ratu Peni Volavola says the peace that we enjoy now is the sacrifice made by those patriotic Fijians.

He adds that to preserve this memory, it needs to be introduced in education curriculum.

“They learn about history in other countries, I doubt very much whether they know something about their history of their parents, forefathers and grandfathers. I think it’s about time schools should take ownership of these things. And inculcate these into the programs of their school curriculum.”

Parents have also been encouraged to remind children the importance of Remembrance Day celebrated yesterday.
