Heavy rain to affect Fiji over the next few days

There is a heavy rain warning and flood alert in place for some parts of Fiji.

A heavy rain warning is now in effect for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and smaller islands, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Director Meteorological Services – Ravin Kumar told FBC News that the trough of low pressure in our system is expected to affect the group over the next 72 hours.

“It is expected to continue affecting us for most of this week given that its slow moving, we expect more rain especially in those areas especially for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, and Lomaiviti group, Northern and Eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. The trough is going to bring periods of rain and a few thunderstorms and the other parts that are not under the Heavy rain warning or alert will experience cloudy periods with some showers and these showers becoming rain and frequent as the trough remains over us.”

With more rain expected in the next 24 hours, those living in low lying areas are advised to regularly monitor the weather reports and move to higher ground if needed.
