Health Minister makes first official round

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete today visited Mokani health centre in Tailevu, in an effort to further understand issues on the ground.

Dr. Waqainabete says health centers and hospitals are on the front line when it comes public service.

He says renovation plans are in the pipeline for the facility that caters for more than 12,000 people.

”Being able to meet with the staff and reassuring them and looking at some of the concerns that we can look at because at the end of the day, we have to be thinking about the next step which is policies and also looking at budget provision for the next financial budget. So that’s the whole aim of coming out and visiting the health centres.”

The Mokani Health Center provides medical services to 20 nearby villages and 13 settlements, including Viwa and Bau Islands.

The Minister also visited Dawasamu and Nausori health centers.
