Handyman charged with rape to take plea next month

A man who allegedly raped a three-year-old girl at a day care center in Suva will take his plea next month.

The 38-year-old man who is charged with one count of rape made his first High Court appearance before Judge Justice Vincent Perera.

It’s alleged the offence occurred in August this year when the accused called the victim to a secluded area at the school premises and indecently assaulted her.

The matter was reported by the victim’s mother after the young girl complained of genital pain.

The accused however claims that during the time of the alleged incident he was not present at the day care.

The state today sought 21 days’ time to file information and disclosures while the defense said they will be making bail application.

The matter has been adjourned until the 27th of next month.
