Government looking at improving EPA Agreement

Discussions are currently underway to further improve the Interim Economic Partnership Agreement between Fiji and the European Union.

Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade Shaheen Ali confirmed this in an interview with FBC News.

Having provisionally applied for the interim Economic Partnership Agreement Ali says the Fijian government is looking at avenues to further benefit from it.

’’There’s talk also of improving the EPA agreement between PNG and EU and also having other Pacific Island countries join the Interim Economic Partnership Agreement’’.

The Government is taking the necessary measures to ensure that preferential market access for Fiji’s most important exports-sugar, fish, garments and processed foods to the EU will not be disrupted by a lapse in a trade agreement with the European Union.
