FTUC cuts ties with FLP

August 31, 2012 8:10 pm

The Political row continues within the Fiji Labour Party and the Fiji Trades Union Congress.

The Union announced yesterday that they had severed all ties with the FLP while the latter denied having any connections with them in the first place.

FTUC President Daniel Urai claims that with this decision, the party loses tens of thousands of votes.

“The FTUC has decided to sever all ties with the Fiji Labour Party. It’s all documented and it’s on the record. This was all decided at the last congress which was held in July this year.”

FLP leader Mahendra Chaudhry says this will have no consequence to the party.

“I do not know what they mean by sever all ties with the FLP. The FTUC was never an affiliate of the FLP.”

Chaudhry’s even confident that the FLP still enjoys support from its voter base without the FTUC.
