“It’s definitely a new market and we have been developing that over the last two years and last year we sold them about 66 tonnes which they used a part of that for their marketing strategy and this year they have come back wanting between to 8,000 tonnes from now until August if that works out okay we could see maybe a shipload of maybe 30 to 40,000 tonnes a year going to Korea.”

The sugar industry is now looking for other markets to export sugar with the European Union sugar quota coming to an end in September 2017.

Khan says they are also exploring other markets like Indonesia, Malaysia and in the Middle East.

He says the EU will remain an important market for our sugar exports even after 2017.
