FSC crushes over a million tonnes of sugarcane

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has crushed over a million tonnes of sugarcane in its three operational sugar mills.

FSC chief operating officer, Navin Chandra says one point zero one million tonnes of cane has been harvested and 107 tonnes of sugar has been made.

Chandra says the crushing is on track with their expected cane harvest.

“We are over the one million mark already which is just over 60% of our crop has been harvested so far. We are looking at operating our mills till end of November. We want to make sure that all cane gets harvested.”

FSC aims to crush 1.7 million tonnes of sugarcane this year.

With the harvesting season almost coming to an end, farmers are being urged to start land preparation and plant more crop for next year.
