FRA working on Intelligence Transportation Systems

The Fiji Roads Authority aims to introduce an Intelligence Transportation System as part of its major initiative in the next few years.

FRA Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore says they are working with the Land Transport Authority on this initiative.

“We can actually put the weighing facility into the road, it’s called weigh in motion where the vehicle goes over the top and this is weighed as it is travelling can cameras photograph it and relay the information to a central control center to make sure we get these things under control.”

Moore adds this system can also link into all the traffic light signals to the main control center to adjust traffic signals’ sequence during peak hours.

He stressed that for now, FRA is focused on continuing with major road improvements around the country adding that this system will be installed as the work progresses.

Moore adds the installation Intelligence Transportation is a huge task and they will be working with Police and LTA to have this introduced in the next few years.
