FRA gets biggest increase

November 21, 2014 4:12 am

The Fiji Roads Authority has had the biggest increase in the 2015 budget.
Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has announced a $179m increase to take the FRA grant to $653m.

He says the money will be used to fast-track a huge back-log of upgrades which have been pending for many years – despite the gains made by the Fiji Roads Authority.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there are numerous bridges around the country that need urgent repairs.

The Chinese government will also pay $15m to repair the Stinson Parade Bridge in Suva.

The Nadi/Lautoka Highway will also be turned into a 4 lane road network.
In an ambitious move, street lights will be installed all over Fiji – be it in the urban areas or rural villages.
