Four people that were swept away due to strong currents in Rakiraki this morning have been rescued.

Rakiraki Villager, Sakiusa Kaitani told FBC News, three men and a woman were assisted by two men of Rakiraki village about an hour ago.

Kaitani says the two men from the village swam across and to rescue them.

The woman was the first to swim ashore and according to Kaitani the other three were assisted by the two villagers.

One of the four survivors was with the DISMAC officers while the other three heading to their homes.
