Social Welfare Assistant Minister, Veena Bhatnaghar said the Convention on the rights of Persons with disabilities that Fiji has ratified has ensured that disabled persons have the right to full participation in society.

Bhatnagar says the convention seeks to enable persons with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life and development.

She adds the ministry calls on all parties to take appropriate measures to ensure that persons with disabilities have access to all aspects of society on an equal basis with others.

For the first time this year, the council received 8 million dollars for disability allowance from the government.
