Children suffering from epilepsy can now receive advance treatment as the Colonial War Memorial Hospital now has its first ever electroencephalography machine.
Charitable organization – Children of Fiji donated the portable EEG machine which is able to record brain’s spontaneous electrical activity over a period of time and epilepsy can be identified if the readings are abnormal.
CWM Head of Paediatrics, Dr. Ilisapeci Tuibeqa, says the machine will speed up work in identifying signs and symptoms of epilepsy in children.
“This EEG machine will go a long way in helping the medical team and the Pediatrics team in diagnosing Epilepsy and its further management here in Fiji.
This machine will be valuable for all patients referred here from across the country.”
Dr. Tuibeqa says machine can be taken to other hospitals for epilepsy treatments.
The Paediatrics Department has treated over 500 cases of epilepsy in children since 2015.
