Sugar Cane Growers Council is urging farmers to fill forms and submit it to their nearest sugar sector office or Sugar Cane Growers Council to avoid disappointment and being left out on the assistance that is provided by the Government.

SCGC acting chief executive Sunil Chaudhry says the Government under the Sugar Cane Care Assistance Scheme announced that sugarcane farmers who were affected by the recent floods and cyclone will be assisted under this scheme.

“It will be on the first come, first serve basis but if farmers from the areas where we haven’t or the assessment team has not visited, if they can come in, those applications can come in soon so that those farms can be taken on board while the teams are out there.”

Chaudhry says if farmers come out now and submit their filled forms, it will save SCGC the time and resources, as assessment teams will be able to assess the affected farms in a single visit.

He says assistance will be provided for clearing debris, drains and waterways.

Assistance for fertilizer supplement for young ratoons and aid for improvement of cane access roads and damage to crossings will also be provided.
