FijiFirst GS explains economic growth

October 28, 2018 6:49 pm

FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has once again stressed that the Fijian economy has never in its history recorded positive growth for nine consecutive years.

He says only twice it has grown for seven consecutive years and that was after independence and once in the 1990s.

Speaking to Party supporters in Rakiraki, Sayed-Khaiyum says due to continuous growth, Fiji’s unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in 20 years and last year 20, 000 jobs were created.

He explained that when the economy grows consecutively, it gives more capacity to the government to do a lot more for the public.

“When you start a policy, it must continue – you can’t stop it. All the policies we’ve done, we’ve done it financially, commercially – whether it is viable or not.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says it takes time to implement policies as thorough investigations and analysis must be carried out first.
