Fijians should have Fiji-UK dual citizenship: Shah

November 7, 2018 5:51 pm

Unity Fiji candidate Dildar Shah will fight for Fijians to have a Fiji-UK dual citizenship.

Shah says this is part of their party’s manifesto and he’s been working on this for almost 20 years.

He adds that countries like New Zealand and Hong Kong to name a few retained their dual citizenship after their independence and it’s our right as Fijians worked in absolute servitude to assist with UK’s developments.

“In 2001, I made a petition to England with 110,000 signatures seeking redress. In this, we include the re-in statements of our British citizenship. When we came from India, we were already a British subject. We were British subject in 1970. I don’t know how we lost it."

Shah says Fijians should have the right to access UK hospitals, schools and other sectors because Fiji has contributed a lot to their development since 1970.

He adds Fiji is dealing with countries that are front runners in human rights, respect for human dignity and justice.

Dildar Shah, a prolific independent will for the first time contest the 2018 General Election on a party ticket.
