Public welcomes manifesto review consultations

Members of the public have welcomed change and inclusivity as part of the new government’s vision.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that a great citizens’ assembly will be convened. This will involve Fijians from all walks of life to add to the manifesto and vision statements of the People’s Alliance, National Federation Party, and the Social Democratic Liberal Party coalition.

FBC News spoke to some members of the public for their views.

For Matelita, she has welcomed the change of leadership.

“I think having this new government is richly going to give us the change we want or the change we need and I guess 2022 ended in a successful way. I think it’s really good getting the citizen’s views on this. I’m happy with the two public holidays and I cannot wait for the New Year 2023.”

A new high school graduate is hoping there will be more opportunities for young people.

“A lot of people are happy so I do expect a lot of great things coming from them and hopefully their policies are to the people’s liking. Hopefully, they provide more opportunities for us youth who are finishing high school.”

Pita Tubuna, who hails from Nabukalevu in Serua, is pleased with the consultative style as the final manifesto will reflect the needs of the people.

“It shows that they care about what the people have to say. Their manifesto will show the needs of the people as they will be including the views of the people .”

Rabuka says the citizen’s assembly will seek ideas and concepts from delegates to complement the government’s plans for building a better, more prosperous, and happier nation.

The citizen’s assembly is part of the coalition government’s plan for the first 100 days.
