Fiji to activate Pacific Labor Scheme with Australia

Fiji will be activating the signed Pacific Labor Scheme with Australia as part of its specific priority activities to be pursued in the next financial year.

Fiji joined the Pacific Labor Scheme in April of this year.

Under the program, Fijian workers can undertake non-seasonal work for up to three years, in rural and regional Australia.

According to the 2019/2020 National Budget Supplement, the activation of the signed scheme is among several other key activities the government plans to undertake as part of its labour reforms.

Other specific activities the government plans to undertake, includes the implementation of the National Employment Policy (NEP), the extension of the National Job Fair and the National Minimum Wages.

Agenda, completion of the review of the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the formulation of new Regulations and Code of Practices, Policies and Procedures.

The strategic focus for the government for this financial year is employment growth and decent work.

The government says its labour reforms will continue to promote a workplace culture of non-discrimination, equal employment opportunities and a safe working environment.
