Fiji committed to strengthening human rights protection

The Fijian Government is committed to strengthening the protection of human rights and the environment.

United Nations Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment, David Boyd says a new National Environment hotline will soon be launched.

He says this is to enable the public to report on illegal activities that harm the environment such as garbage dumping.

_“Fiji is doing really good initiatives to deal with the problems. There is a really interesting made in Fiji the innovation called “The Rocket Stove” which reduces air pollution , black carbon and it actually cooks faster than an open flame and that is really great.”_

He adds that Fiji is also now innovating products to reduce its carbon footprints.

Boyd says such steps will reassure Fijians that government consistently follows through on its environment and human rights commitment.
