Registrar of Political Parties has referred the National Federation Party’s breach of the Section 26 of the Political Parties Decree 2013, to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for investigations.
NFP’s 30-day suspension begins immediately.
Political Parties Decree 2013 requires political party accounts be audited by an accountant certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.
Registrar Mohammed Saneem says the NFP’s accounts were not audited by an FIA-certified accountant.
“This constitutes a breach of section 26 which explicitly requires the audio to have a certificate and as such we immediately began enquires with the auditor or company that was engaged and they responded by saying they were not registered by the FIA.”
Saneem says they will be given 60 days to comply with the Decree and if they cannot do so within this time the party will be de-registered.
