The Fijian Elections Office has briefed the international community and the regional organizations on the preparations for the 2018 general elections.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, says the response was good and this shows that there is a huge amount of interest in next year’s election.

He says while they look forward to progress further with their plans, one of the key highlights of the meeting yesterday was that the international community is ready to support them.

Saneem says they briefed the group on FEO’s development so far, the election management system and its components as well as the network update carried out by the Association of World Election Bodies (AWEB) to modify the network.

“We have identified all the venues that are going to have elections in them and demarcated them into polling day and pre-poll. We’ve got our logistics plan organized and by March next year we should be able to give you more detailed itineraries for various locations.”

Saneem adds the AWEB has also confirmed the FEO’s network is secure and protected from unwarranted interference.
