Family of missing driver in Kasavu hope for good news

July 18, 2018 5:10 am

More than 36 hours of searching for the missing driver of the vehicle that plunged into the Rewa River near Kasavu, Nausori yesterday morning has so far proved futile.

21-year-old Monish Sami picked up Kaushal Singh from Baulevu around 4am and they were on their way to Nausori to pick up another person when the vehicle is believed to have veered off the road.

The missing driver’s uncle and workmate, Vinam Pillay says the last contact with Sami was when he left Baulevu.

“Before 4, we called him and he said he was going to pick him (Kaushal) so he was fine that time. So he had already picked the other man and they were on their way down but I believe along this junction where the incident happened is where we lost contact. I will wait here. That’s our hope unless and until we see a body.”

Pillay says he has been at the site for more than 30 hours hoping for a positive result.

However, the poor visibility has made the search for the divers and officers from the Police Special response unit more difficult.

Meanwhile, the body of 25-year-old Singh was retrieved from the river a few hours after the incident, however, the driver remains missing.
