Senior citizens are receiving little love and care from family members and society.

Minister Rosy Akbar is adamant that families must care for their elderly – and not shift that responsibility to age care homes.

Akbar says it’s disappointing to see an increasing number of people leaving the elderly at senior citizens and never looking back.

“This is a reality and we need to work collaboratively to raise awareness and activate strategies to address the matter effectively, we should turn and question our self what happen to the values of the past where one treated their parents as leaders of the household, where the views of the parents mattered in decision making.”

Akbar agrees that there is still a lack of support and care for senior citizens despite government efforts to raise awareness on the social responsibilities of the younger generation.
