Twenty-six families in the District of Vuna in South Taveuni each received a 25, 000 litre water tank today.
The tanks are given out under government rainwater harvesting project.
The District of Vuna has always been riddled with water problems for decades now.
Apart from rainwater villagers use water from a desalination plant.
The desalination plant has been sitting there for a couple of years and not serving its purpose.
Villagers say the Water quality is salty and is not for consumption.
They now rely on water carting for drinking water.
More water tanks will be distributed in the coming weeks.
