Voter registration is scheduled to start in the Lomaiviti Province today.

Elections Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says so far the feedback from the public has been positive and the registration process is running smoothly.

“Many of the young people are going out to register. The PM has set out one of the non-negotiable principles that 18 year –olds should vote in the next elections. In fact we have high school students and university students going out to get registered. We are urging all Fijians to go and get registered because this will make them eligible to vote in the next general elections.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the challenge for government now is to get 600,000 people registered in the allocated eight weeks.
