EVAW Task-force discuss new strategies

The Multi-Agency Task force on the Elimination of Violence against Women (EVAW) will embark on new strategies to combat violence in Fiji.

The Task-force is made up of representatives from Government, UN agencies, Non-Government Organisations, Faith Based and Civil Society Organisations, led by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

The Task-force held its final meeting for the year at Suvavou House in Suva yesterday.

Chaired by the Minister Rosy Akbar, the meeting provided an opportunity for its members to discuss the strategies for strengthened collaboration in effectively addressing issues of Gender Based Violence.

The task-force was also briefed on the new plans to intensify efforts in creating safer communities for women and children.

This includes the set up of a 24 hour Domestic Violence Help Line as well as the Domestic Violence Service Protocol

Akbar says 2016 will be a year of action and implementation for the Ministry and the task-force.
