Education Ministry steps in to assist students

The Education Ministry will assist sixty students who lost their classrooms in a fire at Korotari Arya School in Labasa.

The school’s manager Prakash Sharma says class two and six students had to complete their second term exams sitting on the veranda and a tent which was set up in the compound today.

“The school closed at 3.30 yesterday and the fire started at 3.45. At this stage we are still awaiting word from the National Fire Authority as to how the fire started.”
Three classrooms and a library room were burnt to the ground.

Sharma says the estimated cost of damage is about $300,000.

The Education Ministry will provide desks and chairs for the students.
