Duo appear in court over alleged bribery charges

A former National manager Border Control with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority and an Afghanistan businessman appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with alleged bribery offences.

Josefa Marawa and Abdul Sheheb were served with the first phase of disclosures this afternoon.

The court heard between the 1st to the 30th April, this year Sheheb who is the Director of Second Hand Car Dealers in Nasinu is alleged to have offered a gift, a Toyota vehicle, to Marawa who is a public servant.

Marawa whilst being a public servant allegedly accepted the vehicle from Sheheb.

On the 19th of July this year Sheheb also is alleged to have offered a loan of four thousand dollars to Marawa, in account of his performing at the National Border Customs Revenue.

In return Marawa allegedly accepted the loan.

Today both the accused were granted bail with two sureties and their passports are to be surrended in court.

The case will be recalled on the 30th of November.
