An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a 5 year old on Thursday.

The deceased was found at around two in the afternoon floating in a nearby creek about 100 meters away from her residence at Vunutukara Settlement, Koroboya.

The 5 year olds mother was feeding her daughter at the time of incident.

The Police are re-stressing the need for parents and guardians to closely monitor the movement of their children during this festive season.

It has also been noted that the hot weather will also mean a tendency for children to venture out and find water sources to go swimming.

The drowning death toll currently stands at 67 compared to 38 for the same period last year.
