Driver remains in custody after road accident

The driver alleged to have caused the death of a 30-year-old man residing in Nakasi remains in custody.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says the victim’s post mortem was conducted yesterday and the cause of death is confirmed to have been from injuries sustained due to a motor vehicle accident.

The incident occurred along Foster Road in Walu Bay on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was standing on the side of the road when it is alleged he was hit by a bus driven by a 33-year-old man.

The victim was rushed to the CWM Hospital where he underwent surgery but passed away later in the evening.

Meanwhile, the post mortem of the two victims of the road accident in Wairabetia Lautoka have been conducted.

It reveals the cause of deaths were due to injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident.

The two victims from Waiberatia were passengers in a vehicle with three others traveling towards Lautoka when the incident happened at around 3am on Thursday.

It is alleged the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road whereby it hit a tree at the junction of Natabua and the Queens Road.

One of the victims has been discharged while the second victim is recovering at the Lautoka Hospital.

The driver has been interviewed and released as investigations continue.

The road death toll currently stands at 61 compared to 59 for the same period last year.
