The seventh draft National Fisheries Policy for the period 2017-2037 has been completed.

According to the Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau the policy is an overarching document that will provide directions and objectives for off-shore aquaculture and coastal fisheries in the next 20 years.

Koroilavesau says this will be of great benefit to all Fijians

“It will provide the platform for the ministry of fisheries officers to carry out their work in making sure there is sufficient source of protein and source of income for our people and also be kept for our future generation.”

The ministry is expected to present the policy to cabinet next year.
