As the general-election nears, political parties will take advantage of your vulnerability says FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there are many political parties campaigning and making promises which are not even possible.

He says one such promise is increasing the minimum wage in the country.

He says FijiFirst was the first Government to have introduced minimum wage for unskilled workers in 2014 and after two major reviews it stands at $2.68 per hour.

Sayed-Khaiyum says during campaigns – SODELPA has promised the minimum wage to go up to $4 an hour, NFP promised $5 an hour whereas HOPE promised $10 an hour.

”You need to understand this. What we are saying is, yes we need to increase salaries but let’s do a proper study, not only look at unskilled worker, let’s look at everybody, let’s see how we can progress and introduce that.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says FijiFirst has already introduced initiatives for pensioners, elderlies, school children and civil servants as well – which is benefitting many Fijians.
