Fiji has made a major breakthrough in telecommunications as the first Pacific island country to invest in digital Television.

Bainimarama says the public trial for the Digital Television Platform will be carried out by state-owned company, Walesi Limited.

“On Monday in the Suva-Nasinu corridor trial will commence, before the full service is officially launched for the rest of the country later in the year. This is a trial period before we take the service national.”

The government has allocated two million dollars to provide low income earners with subsidies on new set-top boxes to tune into digital TV.
