People diagnosed with diabetes must demand better counseling, education and awareness from their healthcare professionals.
Diabetes Fiji, Chair Dr. Jone Hawea says Fijians diagnosed with diabetes must be aware of the risks and know how to manage the condition they’re living with to avoid further complication.
He says this does not only apply to those diagnosed with diabetes but everyone must be well aware of this killer disease.
“It’s very important that you demand to be educated about the condition, about what it is, the complications and how you can live a happy and complication free life even though you are living with diabetes. Demand to be educated to the level where you understand better about diabetes.”
Dr Hawea says many are not aware of the risks associated with diabetes while some choose to ignore and not take advantage of the education and awareness being held around the country.
He says it’s not only about taking medications and antibiotics but understanding more about diabetes.
