There will be delays to the construction of a new two hundred bed Maternity ward at CWM hospital.
Minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usamate, says the ministry needs more time to get all the plans together.
Averages of nine hundred babies are delivered at CWM hospital per month and nine thousand babies annually.
Just over a million dollars has been allocated to extend current facilities and build a new maternity ward, but there are lots of preparations pending.
“There is a big gully so when you build in those sort of area you have to be very sure of with what you doing. So you need a lot of experts, knowledge engineers to do assessments and all of those other things. so I think, i believe the project manager has been appointed. Now during this period all of those experts will come and analyze, the geo -technical survey and all those , so those things will be taking place this year and into the next year , we will not see any construction yet, we want to make sure that when we do construct that every possible angle has been taken care of."
The new maternity ward will be situated next to the existing one.
