The damage to Fiji Roads Authority traffic lights, street lights, railings, and fences is becoming unmanageable.

Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says repair work is becoming an expensive exercise as millions of dollars are spent on improving the infrastructure.

Moore says on average there are two incidents in a week where their property is being damaged

“In the last three days there were two incidents, very expensive incidents probably looking at $10,000 per incident and it is becoming also unmanageable now. We had a bad accident over the weekend, single-car accident against the fencing in Namaka, probably $10,000 damage there”

He adds a new billing system was introduced by the FRA last year to stop drivers from damaging their assets.

Moore says the estimated cost of damage is $5000 to $10,000 per week.

He says this substantial amount of money could otherwise be used to improve other infrastructure.
