The Fiji Correction Services is concerned about sexual offences which are regarded as the highest crimes committed by those that are currently incarcerated.

This was confirmed by the Fiji Corrections Service Deputy Commissioner Apimeleki Taukei.

Taukei believes it’s not their responsibility alone to try and reduce the number as the public’s contribution is also vital therefore the need for their support is paramount

“We believe if villages and families come forward and assist us in trying to help those who are currently in custody or about to be released, I think it will provide a lot of positive changes to their life’s, especially in trying to reduce recidivism re-offending.”

Aggravated burglary is the second offences committed mostly by inmates.
