The trial of a 29-year-old man who allegedly raped his nephew will commence in the Suva High court this morning.
The man is charged with three counts of rape and one count each of assault with intent to commit rape and unnatural offense.
It’s alleged the attacks took place on several occasions between 2007 and 2014 when the victim was only three-years-old.
In court yesterday, the defense counsel sought time to consult with the accused particularly on his plea, as the case was only handed to him a week ago.
The Prosecution agreed to this.
The State also requested the victim to sit outside the witness box as he was intimidated by the court environment which was approved by the Judge.
The victim who is now 14-years-old is a student at a Special School with a name suppression granted.
The Prosecution will be producing three witnesses.
The matter will be called this morning for plea and trial.
