A 30-year-old man facing one charge of rape and one count of sexual assault is now a free man.

The man was acquitted by the Suva High court after Judge Justice Chamath Morais found contradictions in the victim’s statements.

It was alleged that on 28th April last year the 13-year-old victim was sleeping in his room when the accused came to check up on his laptop and woke him up.

The accused allegedly took the victim to his house and committed the offense.

During the three day trial, the man took the stand and denied the allegation.

Justice Moraisa said that the prosecution was not able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The man was acquitted of the two charges
