Alleged rapist pleads not guilty

A man who allegedly raped a 57-year-old woman in Tamavua earlier this year pleaded not guilty to his charges in the Suva High court this morning.

Sevanaia Baleinadi appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

He is charged with three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of robbery, one count of damaging property and one count of criminal intimidation.

The alleged incident occurred in January.

Baleinadi allegedly raped the woman and threatened to kill her and burn her house after robbing her.

The matter has been adjourned to May 1st when a trial date will be set.
