Former divisional registrar charged with obtaining financial advantage

A former employee of the Ministry of Justice appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today charged with corruption related offences.

Iosefo Rabeka is charged with two counts of obtaining a financial advantage.

It is alleged that the former Divisional Registrar West, misappropriated $521 which was for the registration and issuance of Birth, Death and Marriage certificates using the Manual Receipting System.

It is also alleged that he obtained $2,201 by misappropriating the money collected for Court Marriages through the Computerized Receipting System.

FICAC State Counsel Jessie Lagonilakeba informed the court that first phase disclosures have been served and requested strict bail conditions.

Rabeka has been released on bail with a bail bond of $1000 with two sureties.

A stop departure order was issued and he was instructed to surrender all travel documents and to report to the FICAC Lautoka Office.

The matter has adjourned to March 25th .
