Former Chief justice sworn in as Supreme Court judge

Former Chief Justice Anthony Gates is now a Supreme Court judge.

Three Supreme Court Judges were sworn before President Major General (Ret) Jioji Konrote at the State House today.

Supreme Court Judge Anthony Gates, Supreme Court Judge Frederik Daniël Jacobus Brand and Supreme Court Judge Frank Stock took their oath of office.

Meanwhile, Gates officially ended his service as Chief Justice today after 11 years of service.

President Konrote, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has appointed Justice Kamal Kumar as the Acting Chief Justice with effect from today until such time when a substantive appointment is made.

Justice Kumar has served on Fiji’s High Court since 2013 and is the chairperson of the Human Right and Anti-Discrimination Commission.
