Venina Nalagilagi

A woman who is alleged to have killed her newborn baby three months ago has been granted bail by the Suva High court.

21-year-old, Venina Nalagilagi is charged with one count of murder.

The alleged incident occurred on February 10^th on Nairai Island in Lomaiviti.

In court today, the state requested for time to sort out certain issues with the investigating officer in relation to whether the details point towards murder or infanticide.

The Judge granted 10 days for this matter.

Earlier in court, the Judge also noted the accused’s psychiatric evaluation report from Saint Giles Hospital indicated that the matter was a case of infanticide.

However, defence had stated that it could not be confirmed until the information and disclosures were filed.

The matter has been adjourned to May 28^th.
