Alleged brutal rapist remanded

A man facing several criminal offenses will have his fate decided by the Suva High court.

Sevanaia Baleinadi appeared before the Nasinu Magistrates court yesterday afternoon.

He is charged with rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, damaging property, criminal intimidation, and robbery.

The 37-year-old man is alleged to have dragged a 58-year-old woman into a bush and raped her on two occasions on January 7th and 17th in Nasinu.

Baleinadi is also alleged to have brutally assaulted the victim by sitting on her chest and punching her face, including biting her arm.

This before the man threatened to kill her and her sons and burn her house.

In court yesterday, the Magistrate highlighted the accused is charged with an indictable offense and has transferred the case to the High Court in Suva.

Baleinadi has sought Legal Aid for representation.

The accused has been remanded.

The case has been adjourned to February 1st.
