Chetty says they will also be encouraging more farmers to join the sugar industry.

“This year there has been a special allocation made to those growers, incoming growers who want to come into the cane industry, they will be assisted with funds to start farming as a new grower.”

There are more than 13,000 sugar cane farmers in the industry.

Meanwhile, cane farmers will be paid out a special and final cane payment today.
