A consultation next week is expected to encourage more farmers to join the sugar industry.
Sugar Cane Growers Council Chief Executive, Sundresh Chetty says the industry stakeholders together with the Sugar Ministry will be carrying out a consultation to discuss issues affecting them.
He says stakeholders will be visiting the 38 sectors around the country including those in the Western and the Northern divisions.
Chetty says they will also be encouraging more farmers to join the sugar industry.
“This year there has been a special allocation made to those growers, incoming growers who want to come into the cane industry, they will be assisted with funds to start farming as a new grower.”
There are more than 13,000 sugar cane farmers in the industry.
Meanwhile, cane farmers will be paid out a special and final cane payment today.
